Goddess Sekhmet Statue
The Egyptian Goddess Sekhmet is the more aggressive side (to say the least!) of the love goddess, Hathor. When the god Ra needed to quell an insurgency, he called upon his daughter Hathor, who transformed into the lioness Sekhmet. Filled with love for her father and ready to correct the perceived wrong against him, she ravaged the countryside, devouring humanity. Once she tasted blood, she refused to stop and would have wiped out all of humanity if the other gods had not tricked her (by getting her drunk on beer) into stopping. The full myth is fascinating and filled with power and wisdom. If you have time, seek it out!
Sekhmet is a goddess of Passion. She will bring justice, power, and divine order to a situation through her bloodlust. To work with her, simply invoke her by name, leave offerings of beer (large offerings, please!), and be prepared for a bit of healthy upheaval. Remember that the heart of her drive is love because she is, in her other form, Hathor.
